cannot update Air Hockey from iPod Touch

I am trying to update to Air Hockey 1.1.11 on my 16GB iPod Touch rev 2 running iPod software 2.2. I do not know how to tell what version of Air Hockey is already installed. I am using the App Store app on the iPod to get the update. I tap "FREE" and then "INSTALL" and then I put in my Apple ID password. I'm taken back to the home screen. The Air Hockey icon gets a "Loading..." bar on it, and then a popup message appears: "This discounted price is only available to customers who own a previous version of the item. To purchase this item at full price, click Buy." Then I can either Cancel or Buy. I have been clicking Cancel. What happens when I click Buy? Is something corrupted? Do I have to re-download the app?

Eric-

It sounds like the App Store application on your iPod is a little confused. The first thing I would do is reboot your iPod. To do this, hold down the power button on the top of the iPod until you see "slide to power off" at the top of your screen. Slide the red slider and wait for the iPod to shut down. Once it's off, push the power button again to turn it back on. Once that's done, try to update the application using your iPod's App Store application.

If that doesn't work, resync your iPod to your computer. That should make sure that your purchase gets transferred to your computer. Once you do that, download the update through iTunes and sync (again).

If that doesn't work, disconnect the iPod, delete the app, and "buy" it again. Since you already purchased the app, iTunes should not charge you again (even though it looks like it's going to). After you hit "Purchase" and it starts installing, it should pop up a window stating that you already purchased the title & redownloading it is free.

Make sure you check your iTunes receipt email a few days after redownloading Air Hockey. It should not charge you again. I've never heard of it recharging someone for the same piece of software, but it's something to watch out for just in case.

Please let me know if this works. I'd like to get you running the latest version!

Bryan, thank you for the tips - I will try those out.

How do I tell which version I am running? I've found that with several of the apps I own, I am not able to tell the version because there is no "about" or splash screen with that info. I'm not sure where to find it in Air Hockey.

You're right, there's no version number listed that you can see in Air Hockey. You can scroll to the bottom of the Air Hockey web page & compare which features you have to the list on the page: http://www.acceleroto.com/airhockey/

Here are the last 3 versions:
1.1.9 added the 2 puck option.
1.1.10 added stereo sound (put earplugs in to hear it)
1.1.11 added a "resume game" capability & lets you turn on or off the random table color feature on the pause screen.

That's not a bad idea for my setup/pause screen. It'd be easy to throw that at the bottom of the page.
